THIS JOURNEY OF MINE
My birthday poem
I never thought this day would come
that I could smile while reminiscing about the years that have passed.
I remember the tears. I remember the pains.
I remember the laughter I've shared with friends.
I never dreamed of grand things,
I simply turned my face forward and lived life,
determined to keep moving, one step at a time.
I let the breeze carry me
to the destination prepared by Him.
I traveled from one place to another,
waiting to see what life would unfold for each of us.
I reached for places I never thought I could touch,
and walked among the stars that once seemed too high to catch.
I kept going. And somewhere along the way,
I found myself living what others only dream of.
Sometimes I stumble. Sometimes I fall.
But I always rise and keep walking on.
And now, I stand in days I once only hoped for,
blessed beyond what I ever dared to ask for.
Today I turn sixty-one — six decades journeying through this world of uncertainties.
I am no longer who I once was...
and that is my life's humble grace.
I find joy in the simple swing of a hammock,
in the breeze that gently rocks me to and fro
...in my sweet throwback.
I embrace a life that has known worries and unknowns,
for I have walked through every hardship and overcome them all.
And now, having weathered it all,
I have no reason to step back. I only step forward and let the road roll on.
Enjoying every tiny challenge of life,
for it is these quiet little challenges that keep me going.
And as long as I have air to breathe,
I will keep moving towards the abyss of fullness... with my daring spirit.
